ZIPP 808 Firecrest Disc Carbon Centerlock Tubeless Wheelset

The Zipp 808 Firecrest Carbon Tubeless wheelset for disc brakes is a particularly aerodynamic wheelset with 80mm rim height.
The 808 Firecrest is particularly suitable for triathlon and time trial or fast flat stages. Despite its superior aerodynamic capabilities, the 808 is comparatively resistant to crosswinds.

At 1917g, the 808 Firecrest is no lightweight. However, the aerodynamic advantages easily make up for the weight. The wide rims are optimized for 28mm tires. This combination combines low rolling resistance, sophisticated aerodynamics, comfort and safety. The 808 Firecrest rim also works with wider tires up to 50mm. The installation is very easy with Zipp's "Tubeless Made Easy" system and works even without a compressor. The Zipp ZR1 hubs are state of the art and respond through a 6-pawl body with 66 detent points even faster.

Compatible tires

The Zipp 808 Firecrest wheelset is aerodynamically optimized for 28mm wide tubeless tires. For more comfort and grip, however, it also copes with wider tires up to 50mm. The wide rims are optimized for lower tire pressures, especially with tubeless tires. The maximum tire pressure is only 5 bar. As a result, however, this leads to a larger contact area, higher comfort, more grip and lower rolling resistance.

The hookless rims of the 808 Firecrest are only suitable for tubeless tires. Folding tires are therefore not compatible with the Zipp 808 Firecrest! The tires can be mounted tubeless or with a conventional tube. An overview of the compatible tires can be found here.

Aerodynamics

The Zipp 808 Firecrest is aerodynamically optimized for 28mm tires. Due to its width, the rim optimizes the tire shape and thus allows a lower air pressure. This not only reduces rolling resistance but also makes riding more comfortable. The rims feature Zipp's characteristic dimple structure. The ensures that the air flows better and with less friction over the rim surface. Overall, this leads to better aerodynamics, lower rolling resistance and higher comfort with the Zipp 808 Firecrest!

Weight

The Zipp 808 Firecrest Tubeless Disc Brake wheels have a total weight of 1917g with the 80mm high aerodynamic rims. The front wheel weighs in at 898g, the rear wheel at 1019g.

Tire mounting

The rims are optimized for easy, tool-free mounting of tubeless tires. No more need for a compressor to mount tires. Yeah!

Compatible cassettes

The Zipp 808 Firecrest are available with 2 different freewheel bodies:

Shimano/SRAM 10/11/12-speed: The classic Shimano HG freewheel. All 10, 11 and 12-speed Shimano Road and SRAM Race 10 and 11-speed cassettes can be mounted.

SRAM XDR 12-speed: The XDR freewheel body is only compatible with SRAM XDR 12-speed cassettes.

Rims

The Zipp 808 Firecrest Tubeless rim bed measures 23mm. It is made of carbon. Conventional folding tires require a hook rim to sit securely on the rim. The 808 Firecrest lacks this hook. The tubeless tire design ensures that the tire sits on the rim through the tire pressure. This allows wider tires to be mounted with less air pressure. The rims feature Zipp's characteristic dimple structure. The ensures that the air flows better and with less friction over the rim surface. Overall, this leads to better aerodynamics, lower rolling resistance and higher comfort with the Zipp 808 Firecrest!

Spokes

Zipp makes no compromises and uses the tried and tested Sapim CX-Ray spokes with the 808 Firecrest.

Hubs

Zipp uses the Zipp ZR1 hubs with the 808 Firecrest wheels. The hub were designed in Germany. They are equipped with sealed and maintenance-free industrial bearings with very low friction.

Lifetime warranty

Zipp wheels are rugged. So rugged that Zipp offers a lifetime warranty against production defects! The warranty is non-transferable and only redeemable with proof of purchase. In addition, you must register for the warranty at Zipp after purchase.
