What makes the Tacx NEO 3M special?

The Garmin Tacx NEO 3M Smart Trainer takes indoor cycling to a new level of realism. Its powerful direct-drive system combines the proven Tacx NEO electromagnetic motor with a virtual flywheel and integrated Motion Plates. This allows the trainer to move naturally not only from side to side, but also forwards and backwards.
The result is an exceptionally realistic and comfortable riding experience that comes remarkably close to the feeling of riding outdoors.

Compatible Bikes

The NEO 3M is compatible with most road bikes, triathlon bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes. It supports both quick-release and standard 12 mm thru-axle setups, including 142 mm and 148 mm axle widths.

Compatible Cassettes

Cassette compatibility can be surprisingly confusing. There are several freehub standards (HG, XD, XDR and Micro Spline), different numbers of sprockets (from 7-speed to 12-speed) and a wide range of gear ratios. If you are not sure which cassette you need, just ask us. We are happy to help you find the right solution.

7- and 8-speed cassettes: Compatibility depends on the specific cassette. In general, older 7- and 8-speed systems can be used with the appropriate spacers. If you are unsure, we recommend having the cassette installed by a qualified bike mechanic.

9- and 10-speed cassettes: Shimano and SRAM 9- and 10-speed cassettes are compatible with the standard NEO 3M freehub body. The appropriate spacer must be used to ensure the cassette is securely and correctly installed.

11-speed cassettes: The NEO 3M comes with an 11-speed Shimano/SRAM 11-28 cassette already installed. It is compatible with most Shimano and SRAM 11-speed road and MTB drivetrains. We can also install a higher-quality 11-speed cassette that matches your groupset.

Shimano 12-speed Road: Shimano 12-speed road cassettes, including those used with the 105, Ultegra R8100 and Dura-Ace R9200 groupsets, are compatible with the standard NEO 3M freehub body.

Shimano 12-speed MTB (Micro Spline): Shimano Micro Spline MTB cassettes do not fit the standard NEO 3M freehub body. Garmin offers a dedicated Micro Spline freehub body that can be installed separately. Compatible groupsets include Shimano SLX M7100, XT M8100 and XTR M9100.

SRAM 12-speed Road (XDR): SRAM 12-speed road cassettes use the XDR standard. Garmin offers a dedicated SRAM XD-R freehub body for the Tacx NEO 3M, which is available separately.

SRAM 11- and 12-speed MTB (XD): SRAM XD mountain bike cassettes require the dedicated Tacx SRAM XD-R freehub body, which is available separately.

Campagnolo cassettes: Garmin offers a dedicated Campagnolo freehub body for the Tacx NEO 3M, allowing compatible Campagnolo 10-, 11- and 12-speed cassettes to be used.

We can install the appropriate cassette on your Garmin Tacx NEO 3M before shipping, so you can start training as soon as you unpack it. Simply select the cassette you need from the available options.

The number of sprockets is generally more important than the manufacturer or groupset. For example, a Shimano HG50 9-speed cassette is compatible with Shimano 9-speed groupsets such as Sora, Tiagra, 105, Ultegra and Dura-Ace, as well as compatible 9-speed drivetrains from SRAM and Campagnolo.

Connectivity

Bluetooth and ANT+ allow the Tacx NEO 3M to connect to a wide range of devices and training applications. Popular platforms such as Zwift and TrainerRoad recognize the trainer automatically. For an especially stable network connection, the optional Tacx Smart Network Adapter provides connectivity via Wi-Fi or Ethernet.

Compatible Bike Computers, Smartphones and Apps

The Tacx NEO 3M works with a wide range of devices. Thanks to ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart, you can connect it to most modern bike computers, smartphones and tablets, as well as popular indoor training applications.

Accurate Power Measurement – No Calibration Required

Power, speed and cadence are measured to an accuracy of within 1%. The NEO 3M does not require regular calibration. Power is measured directly by the trainer, allowing it to respond quickly and precisely to changes in your effort. In ERG mode, the resistance is automatically adjusted to keep you on your target power throughout a structured workout.

Resistance and Climb Simulation

The NEO 3M is built for everything from easy endurance rides to demanding intervals and virtual races. It can provide up to 2,200 watts of resistance and realistically simulate gradients of up to 25%. It also supports descent simulation, making virtual climbs and descents feel much more natural.

Noise Level

Traditional wheel-on turbo trainers can be surprisingly noisy, with the rear tyre spinning against a resistance roller. The Tacx NEO 3M takes a very different approach. Its electromagnetic motor makes it exceptionally quiet, making it an excellent choice for apartments, shared homes and anyone who simply prefers a quieter training environment. Less noise also means a much more enjoyable indoor training experience.

Durability

The NEO 3M is designed as a premium direct-drive smart trainer for regular and intensive indoor training. Its robust construction and high-quality electromagnetic drive system are built to withstand demanding workouts, including high-power intervals and repeated sprint efforts.

The Garmin Tacx NEO 3M comes with a 2-year warranty. Garmin also provides support in Germany, making it straightforward to get assistance should you ever experience a problem with your trainer.
