Favero Assioma PRO MX-2 SPD Power Meter

The Favero Assioma PRO MX-2 is a dual-sided SPD power meter for gravel, MTB, and cyclocross. Both pedals measure independently and therefore provide more precise data for power, balance, and pedalling analysis than single-sided off-road systems. If a more affordable entry point is enough for you, the Assioma PRO MX-1 is the appropriate base version.

Its real value lies in combining off-road usability with genuine data depth: SPD compatibility, electronics protected inside the spindle, and precise measurement for ambitious gravel and MTB riders. For road use with different cleat systems, the Assioma PRO RS-2 and the Assioma PRO RL-2 are the better alternatives.

On the PRO MX-2, both pedals measure independently. That is more relevant off-road than many riders assume: changing positions, technical sections, low-cadence accelerations, and rough terrain often create asymmetrical loading. Compatible bike computers and smartphones

The PRO MX-2 transmits data via ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart. It works with common devices from Garmin, Wahoo, Sigma, Hammerhead, and other brands, as well as with smartphones and training apps.

Compatible bikes

The PRO MX-2 is especially logical for MTB, gravel, cyclocross, and trekking bikes, but it can technically be used on any bike with a standard pedal thread. The real advantage lies in the SPD system: walkability, mud tolerance, and off-road functionality make far more sense in this use case than road pedals.

Cleats

The pedal system is based on Shimano SPD. You therefore need shoes with a 2-bolt pattern. Original Shimano SPD cleats are compatible. For riders who often walk, push, or ride in changing terrain, this cleat standard is a central benefit of the MX-2.

Battery and charging intervals

With up to 160 hours of runtime, the PRO MX-2 lasts significantly longer than many older pedal-based power meters. For bikepacking, long gravel weeks, or multi-bike training, this noticeably reduces charging frequency. Charging is done directly on the pedal via a magnetic connector.

Construction for harsh conditions

Electronics and battery are fully protected inside the pedal spindle. External battery doors or open ports are eliminated. That is structurally sensible for off-road products because water, dust, mud, and frequent cleaning are handled better than in more exposed designs.

Weight and usage logic

At 192 g per pedal, the PRO MX-2 is heavier than the road-focused PRO variants. This is not a flaw, but a consequence of the more robust SPD pedal body. For gravel and MTB riders, the key priorities are function, durability, and real system compatibility rather than the last few grams.

Accuracy and oval chainrings

Favero specifies ± 1% accuracy. The PRO MX-2 can also be used with oval chainrings. Under irregular cadence, short load spikes, and rough pedalling conditions, stable measurement matters more than an impressive number on a marketing sheet.

In addition to power in watts, the PRO MX-2 transmits Power Balance, Cadence, Torque Effectiveness, Pedal Smoothness, Power Phase, Rider Position, and PCO. For ambitious gravel and MTB riders, this becomes relevant when technique work, bike fitting, or asymmetry analysis actually matter.

Setup and firmware updates

Setup is done through the Favero Assioma app. Registration, crank length, and firmware updates are all managed there. In practice, the process is simple and only takes a few minutes.

Installation

The pedals are installed like normal pedals with a pedal wrench. That keeps the PRO MX-2 a genuine plug-and-play solution. Riders using several gravel or MTB bikes can therefore move the system without workshop-level effort.
