The Favero Assioma PRO MX-1 is a single-sided SPD power meter for gravel, MTB, and... more
Assioma PRO MX-1 SPD Power Meter

The Favero Assioma PRO MX-1 is a single-sided SPD power meter for gravel, MTB, and cyclocross. Power is measured in the left pedal and total power is calculated from that value. Riders who also need true left-right data off-road can move directly to the Assioma PRO MX-2.

Unlike road-oriented power meters, this model is not built around the last gram but around off-road usability: SPD cleats, a robust spindle construction, and clear practicality in mud, rain, and frequent bike changes. If you ride a road bike with Shimano SPD-SL instead, the Assioma PRO RS-1 is the better fit.

Strengths and weaknesses

  • single-sided power measurement with high accuracy (± 1%)
  • Shimano SPD compatible system for gravel, MTB, and cyclocross
  • up to 160 hours of battery life
  • robust sealed electronics inside the pedal spindle
  • integrated cadence measurement
  • modular design with replaceable pedal body
  • easy to swap between multiple bikes
  • ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart
  • measurement only in the left pedal
  • no true left-right balance
  • usable only with Shimano SPD compatible cleats
  • at 192 g per pedal, heavier than the road-focused PRO models

Why the MX-1 needs a different search profile from road power meters

Off-road riders care about different things than road cyclists. Walkability, dirt resistance, secure engagement, and real-world durability matter more than the last few grams. That is exactly why the MX-1 should not sound like a road power meter in search and category copy, but like a serious training solution for gravel and MTB use.

Single-sided measurement focused on training rather than fine analysis

The left pedal measures power and transmits a calculated total value. For training control, intervals, fitness tracking, and load documentation, that is enough in many cases. Riders who want to analyse asymmetries in detail or optimise bike fit based on both legs should choose the MX-2 instead.

SPD system for off-road use and daily practicality

The PRO MX-1 is based on the Shimano SPD standard and uses shoes with a 2-bolt pattern. That is exactly what makes it practical for gravel and MTB: walking is easier, cleats are more everyday-friendly, and the system stays functional in mud and wet conditions.

Construction for harsh conditions

All electronics and the battery are protected inside the pedal spindle. Open battery doors or exposed outer components are eliminated. This construction is structurally more plausible for off-road use than more delicate solutions with externally exposed hardware.

Weight and usage context

At 192 g per pedal, the MX-1 is not ultralight. For its target group, that is secondary. The important factors are system reliability, cleat compatibility, and the ability to deliver clean power data under real gravel and MTB conditions.

Battery, data transmission, and setup

Battery life reaches up to 160 hours. Charging is done directly on the pedal via a magnetic connector. ANT+ and Bluetooth Smart ensure compatibility with many bike computers, smartphones, and training platforms, while the Favero app handles setup and firmware updates.

FAQ about the Favero Assioma PRO MX-1

Question: Who is the MX-1 for?

Answer: It is designed for gravel and MTB riders who want to train with power but do not need a dual-sided system.

Question: When should I choose the MX-2 instead?

Answer: You should choose the MX-2 if you want to analyse asymmetries properly or use both sides for bike fitting.

Question: Why is the MX-1 not a typical road power meter?

Answer: Because it is deliberately built around SPD, off-road usability, and robust everyday performance.

Question: Is the higher weight a problem off-road?

Answer: Usually not, because for gravel and MTB riders, system stability and cleat compatibility matter more than the last few grams.
